Audience:

Educators who want to learn ways to support and challenge newly arrived immigrant students and engage them in quality opportunities to learning in meaningful contexts.

Goal:

To develop the capacity of secondary educators to offer Newcomer students rich, meaningful, and worthwhile quality opportunities to learn.

 

You will learn to:

• Challenge common assumptions about who Newcomers are and what they are capable of achieving

• Understand, experience, and design highly structured quality learning opportunities for students just beginning their educational journeys in the US

• Craft opportunities for quality interactions among Newcomers with a wide range of English language proficiencies

• Reflect deeply on your own practice and the underlying theories of education that drive your decision making
